Benchmark USB Driver playing Hi Res file

Benchmark USB Driver playing Hi Res file

 Hi,

I have been using the Benchmark DAC1 HDR with a Squeezebox Touch connected via coaxial in my bedroom for a while and I also use my Notebook PC with Windows XP, Foobar2000 and ASIO4ALL driver with a tiny Nuforce USB DAC in the office.  When I tried to connect the Benchmark to my Notebook and playback with Foobar and ASIO4ALL driver, it sometime cannot play, or play with some obvious noise.  I have to select the Benchmark Driver in Foobar inorder for it to play properly.  The question is, is Foobar playing 24/96 using the Benchmark driver?

Jason

Hi Jason,

Yes, Foobar is capable of playing 96/24 using the Benchmark USB interface.

Follow these directions for optimal performance:

 Thanks for you reply,

 Thanks for you reply, Elias.

But sorry I still don't get it !  I have been using Foobar for a while already without any problem playing 24/96 with outerh DAC...  The question is when I connect the DAC1 via USB frm teh same computer, my original setting with Foobar and ASIO4ALL didn't work... that I have to choose Benchmark DAC1 in Device setting for it to work...

My initial setting in Foobar that works with another USB DAC :

Preference>Output>Device>ASIO : ASIO4ALL v2

This setting doesn't work all the time with the Benchmark

I have to use

Preference>Output>Device>Benchmark DAC

for the HDR to work but I think its not playing in high res mode.... or am I wrong?

Jason

Jason, I apologize for the

Jason,

I apologize for the delayed response.  Somehow, I was unaware of your follow-up question.

The following setting:

Preference>Output>Device>Benchmark DAC

...is the proper setting for your system.  You will be able to have all of the High-res capabilities without sacrificing anything.

Elias

Hi Elias,

It is a very late reply but at least you did reply :) Thankyou and happy new year.

Does that mean I don't need any other drivers for Foobar playing Hi res files with my HDR. What about Windows 7?

Jason

Correct - you don't need any

Let me know if you have any other questions.

 ccjj - Although I've used

ccjj - Although I've used foobar, it seems quicky tricky to set up, especially as you have to mess about with asio/asio4all etc. I have found J River MediaCenter to be much easier to use, only necessary setting are

Tools > Audio >

Output Mode: WASAPI Event Style.

Output Mode Settings: Speakers (Benchmark 1.0)

x Open Device for exclusive access.

Works flawlessly, 24 bit 96 kHz no problem - will even play from memory if you are into that kind of thing. And it tells you what bit rate and sampling frequency it is playing at so there should be no doubtl. I've no connection with J RIver other than being a happy customer - you can try it free for 30 days

Thanks Jerry... I have been using Foobar for a while already that I start getting used to it... that I don't want to switch......yet!  Its been working fine with my other USB DAC... just not with my HDR.
