The latest Quicktime version 7.6.9 for Win 7 (64 bit) has a “Play Audio Using” menu at Edit>Preferences>QuickTime Preferences>Audio tab with three choices, Safe Mode (waveOut only), Direct Sound, and Windows Audio Session.

Anyone know what each of these choices does and which is best with a Benchmark DAC1 HDR connected by USB to a PC with Win 7 (64 bit) and iTunes version 8.2.0.23?  Also, I play both 16/44 and 24/96 resolution music and want to make sure to get the music’s full potential and not limit 24/96 music to only 16/44 playback.
