DAC1 HDR, new Mac Mini, Lion, iTunes 10.5 & Pure Music
Submitted by PhilC on Thu, 2011-10-20 14:10I'm a satisfied owner of a DAC1 HDR and plan on making some hardware and software changes to my audio system. So I'm trying to make sure these changes will play nice with my DAC1 HDR. I want to add to my system the new Apple Mac Mini with the new Lion O/S (X 10.7) and connect its USB port to the DAC1 HDR. In addition, I plan to use the new iTunes version 10.5 together with the latest version of Channel D's Pure Music.
I would sure like to hear back from Rory Rall or other Benchmark gurus and forum members about showstoppers, incompatibilities, or setting adjustments needed with the DAC1 HDR and this new hardware and software.
Channel D's web site states that Pure Music is compatible with Lion O/S, but they do advise, to be safe, to wait for at least a "one dot" Lion update (i.e., 10.7.1). Also, they say integer (nonmixable integer streams) support apparently has been eliminated in Lion, at least at the current time. I mention this just as a point of interest knowing that any issues between Pure Music and Lion are beyond the scope and control of the DAC1 HDR. If anyone happens to know about other issues between the new Mac Mini, Lion, iTunes 10.5, and Pure Music, let us know.
Thanks,

I am using the DAC1 HDR with an iMac, OSX Lion and Pure Music. Shortly I am going to try the HDR in my big boy rig: ATC SCM 50 ASL active speakers, Parasound JC -2 Pre, Oppo 83SE Nuforce and MacBook Pro/RME Fireface 400. Also play a lot of vinyl but that is not germaine to this subject! :-)
First, Lion is up to 10.7.2 with 10.7.3 about to be released. In my system it works perfectly with Pure Music and sounds great. I recently purchased my DAC1 HDR and started listening with my Grado RS1 and Sennheiser HD650 headphones. Up till now I have been severly disappointed with the HD650s, never understanding why it received such praise. It wasn't until I hooked them up to the the Benchmark DAC did I finally see the light. A match made in heaven.
