I'm thinking of buying a DAC1 USB, and would like to know whether I can use the USB port of my iPod to output to the DAC.

The iPod doesn't have the host driver required to connect directly to the USB input of the DAC1 USB. However, this can be accomplished with the iPad. Let me know if you'd like more details about that.
