Mac Thunderbolt w. Benchmark DAC?

Mac Thunderbolt w. Benchmark DAC?

I have a new MacBook Pro that has a "Thunderbolt" output.  I want to use this computer at least temporarily to serve Hi-Res files to my Benchmark DAC 1 w. USB (plan to get a Mac Mini in the future to use as a dedicated audio computer in the music system).

Is there a way to output from the MacBook to Benchmark DAC using the Thunderbolt?  If so, would that be a better option than the USB output on the computer?

Near as I can tell, this new MacBook Pro does not include a Toslink output, so that doesn't seem an option.

Any advice on how best to connect this particular computer to the Benchmark would be welcomed.  Thanks for your time.

Hi Byrdhunt, The DAC1 cannot

Hi Byrdhunt,

The DAC1 cannot connect via Thunderbolt.  However, the USB output will work perfectly, so don't hesitate to use it.  Also, the optical output is in the headphone jack.  To use the optical, you need this type of adaptor for your optical cable:

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Best,
