Dip switch settings

I'm thinking of replacing my aging Perpetual Technologies P-3A DAC with the Benchmark DAC-1. My current setup is: TACT (digital room correction) -> DAC -RCA-> Amp. I use the TACT to control the volume. In such a setup, would I use the Benchmark in calibrated mode? How would I set the attenuation controls? Thanks in advance.

If you prefer to use the

If you prefer to use the TACT for volume control, then the calibrated mode would be appropriate for you.  Regarding the attenuators, they are set according to the amplifiers input sensitivity.  Determine the maximum input level of your amplifier, and I will help you adjust the attenuators properly.

All the best,

Elias

Elias- Can you please

Elias-

Can you please recommend a starting attenuator setting to try? I don't want to blow my speakers!

Amp spec:

Audio gain 30dB (31.5 times) nominal
Input impedance 31K Ohm
Input sensitivity for full power output into 8 Ohms 1.42 Volts

Output voltage, RMS 45 Volts 20Hz to 20kHz peak 127 Volts
Power output 250 Watts into 8 Ohms (24dBW) 450 Watts into 4 Ohms
Peak-to-peak output current 72 Amps

Thanks!

Are you using the RCA or XLR

Are you using the RCA or XLR connectors?

RCA

RCA

The output attenuators only

The output attenuators only affect the XLR outputs.

However, if you find that the level of the RCA outputs are too high for your system, you can use XLR to RCA cables (BE SURE THEY ARE THE PROPER TYPE - that is, pin 3 should be 'floating' or not-connected like this: http://www.benchmarkmedia.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=79).  By using the XLR outputs, you can have more customization of the output levels.

Also, if you aren't using the headphone amplifier, you can use the 'variable' mode and find a volume setting that suits your system.

Let me know how it goes...
