Static on volume control
Static on volume control
Submitted by barrymac33 on Wed, 2011-01-19 03:01I purchased my DAC-1 in 2005, and it has been in constant use ever since. The volume control has recently developed static/noise in mid rotation, which can be 'cleaned' temporarily by several quick rotations back and forth, but must be done several times a day at this point. Is there a way to clean the pot? Do you have any recommendations for doing so?
Thank you.

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. "Cleaning" the pot really won't help. The pot should be replaced, ultimately. The charge for replacing the pot is $50 plus return shipping. This can be arranged through our service department at service@benchmarkmedia.com.
Best regards,

Thanks for your reply Rory.
This 'situation' has given me the opportunity to try the calibrated mode, which is sounding great. I'll live with the pot for the time being for headphone listening. Would it be possible to buy the replacement pot so that I could have it installed locally?
Just out of curiosity, is the same brand of volume control still used in the current production models?

We strongly advise against buying the pot and having it installed elsewhere. It can be a tricky install, and if not done properly, permanent damage to the board may result.
The replacement pot is the same brand and value, but with soft 'detents' in its rotation.
Best regards,
