 I'm a new proud father of a DAC1 HDR, which I have tethered by Toslink to my old Sony ES CD player as a transport.

I've read your article "Is Your Transport Giving You All The Bits?" which alludes to a survey of recommended DVD transports, but doesn't provide your conclusions on the topic.

Do you have any preferences [personal or corporate] for an 'old fashioned CD' front end for the HDR, apart from the preferred USB 24/96 connection?

Well, there is no conclusion to that story.  New transports come along every day, and old transports are sent to the 'transport field to graze'. 

 

Consequently, we have no 'recommended transport'.  We have a list of transports that we have tested, including the results.  Here is the link:  http://benchmarkmedia.com/wiki/index.php/DVD_Transports

 

Your Sony may be bit-perfect, though.  Every CD player we tested was, in fact, bit-perfect.  It was the DVD players w/ re-sampling that caused breaches in signal integrity.
