I am a happy owner of a DAC-1 used in a two channel music only system. The sound quality and construction quality are superb. Most of the time the DAC-1 provides all the features I need, input selection and volume control. However ....

I live in a condo and often listen to music late at night. The typical problem encountered in this environment when lowering the volume level so the neighbors can't hear the loud passages I can't hear the quiet passages. I wish the DAC-1 were available with dynamic range compression software (i.e. operating in the digital domain) operated via a front panel on/off switch and a rotating knob to adjust the amount of compression.
