"
Audio is more than my hobby
It's almost a perversion
But one thing I lack
Is quality D/A conversion.

I suffer everyday
With sound that's muddy and dark
But my problems would be solved
By a rackmount Benchmark.

Some buddies have better studios
But I'd never again be outdone
If I could make them jealous
With a brand new DAC1.

Crystal high end
Perfect stereo separation
Firm and beautiful bass
Worthy of laudation.

One hundred and ninety two k
And twenty four bit
I really want a DAC1
It's a beautiful piece kit.

So come on Benchmark
Send the prize to me
Spread the word to Ireland
And set my audio free!

" I have always felt frustrated by the incomplete promise of the compact discs claim of "perfect sound forever". Forever, maybe, but certainly not perfect!

The convenience factor of the CD medium is undeniable-but at what cost? Much like a ViewMaster slide viewer, the CD's audio image is there, but it is flat, lifeless, and not true 3D at all. For this reason alone , I treasure my 5,000 album vinyl collection. Clicks and pops and all.

While other manufactureres have come up with either ultra-expensive or ultra-hinky solutions to jitter and distortion artifacts, the DAC1 UltraLock™ technology so clearly leads the way.

Many years ago I asked a friend at NPR why the network had such clearly superior audio quality, even over the air. His answer was simple. Benchmark Media equipment in NPR's master control and throughout the entire system.

That was enough for me.

So-please, let me learn love my CD's all over again!

I want my DAC1!!

Sincerely, Keith W. White"

"Music is my calm, it is my peace. After a long day I can sit back and enjoy the company of all of my favorite friends (though we've never met). I can escape to another time another place that the music helps me to remember. …"

Marin Simina from Alpharetta, GA
Marin explains how he is using his new DAC1 to increase the effectiveness of   Thomatis-based Listening Therepy -

"The amazing thing is that such therapeutic listening can be used to do a workout of the muscles of the middle ear, which can benefit anyone to achieve "golden ears" (in particular opera singers, audiophiles and recording engineers). As an example, the famous opera diva Maria Callas used the Tomatis method to improve her singing ability.

It was a no brainer to realize that the quality of the equipment used (including a CD player, a pair of high quality headphones and an amplifier) plays a significant role in the success of my son's therapy. Specifically, a good DAC and the perfect reproduction of high frequencies is crucial. And this is how I found about the DAC1 from Benchmark, which has an unmatched response for high frequencies. It is also a small and extremely rugged unit, which can be used to do listening therapy in the car (by using a power inverter).

I had a chance to compare DAC1 with my Denon receiver (AVR-5700) capable of up-sampling to 24 bits by using Denon's AL24 algorithm. DAC1 was obviously more transparent. For the record, my setup included also a Denon DVD-1920 player, Straightwire SLink coaxial cable and a pair of Sennheiser HD595 headphones."
