MPS-400 Mic-Pre System
The MPS-400 mic-pre system consists of four MP-4
microphone preamplifier modules installed in a 1 RU, 19"
wide rack mount chassis. Each MP-4 has balanced inputs and
outputs, with switchable phantom power and 20 dB input attenuator.
The MP-4 was designed to achieve the highest performance
available in microphone pre-amplification. The MP-4 is ideal for
the recordist who wants to maximize performance from analog or digital
recorders using the superior microphone technologies that have emerged
in the past few years. With the MP-4 at or close to the
microphone, the signal amplitude can be immediately raised to line level
and sent to the console or recorder. The results are a minimization of
interference pickup from power lines, SCR stage lighting, etc., and
allowing longer lines to be driven. The MP-4 allows existing consoles
to be retained, since it now provides the state-of-the-art mic-pre
performance that is most often missing from an otherwise good
console.
When trying to describe the pristine character of the MP-4 the
tried and true superlatives are left wanting.
State-of-the-Art, though accurate, is so misused that its
meaning has faded. One recording engineer recently said "I find it
hard to believe all the improvement I hear could come from the
microphone preamplifier, but that's all we've changed. Perhaps we tuned
the piano better." Is it possible? You have to hear to believe!
And you'd better do it before your competition does.

Two gain control options are now available. The first is the
switched gain option. The gain range of the switched gain option
is +15 to +65 dB in 5 dB steps or +30 to +50 dB in 2 dB steps.
This new option allows a much more precise gain matching from channel to
channel.
The second option is the gain potentiometer. It provides
continuously variable gain from +18 to +73 dB. The system is
normally powered by a PS-2000
high current, 120/240 volt supply.
Features
The MPS-420 has the same features as the MPS-400, plus a
stereo mix (four preamps to two outputs) and a front panel stereo
headphone amp to monitor the mixed outputs. This system is excellent for
location recording. Two gain control options are now
available. The first is the switched gain option. The gain
range of the switched gain option is +15 to +65 dB in 5 dB steps or +30
to +50 dB in 2 dB steps. This new option allows a much more
precise gain matching from channel to channel. The second option is the
gain potentiometer. It provides continuously variable gain from
+18 to +73 dB. The system is powered by a
PS2000 power supply (included).
