Benchmark DAC1 PRE awarded “Product of the Year” by ‘Absolute Sound’

SYRACUSE, New York, November 3, 2008 – The DAC1 PRE, the latest design in the DAC1 series from Benchmark Media Systems, has been named “Product of the Year” by audiophile journal ‘The Absolute Sound’. The announcement was made in the publication’s January 2009 issue.

Elias Gwinn, Applications Engineer at Benchmark, said, “This award from ‘Absolute Sound’ is especially exciting because of the high sonic standards that a product must exceed to be considered for the award. We know what the DAC1 PRE is capable of, yet it is gratifying when discerning professionals acknowledge its achievements as well.”

The Absolute Sound, a magazine dedicated to reviews of audiophile music and equipment since 1973, awards the “very best products” reviewed throughout the year. The DAC1 PRE was reviewed in the August 2008 ‘Absolute Sound’ issue.

The DAC1 PRE is designed to act as a stand-alone D-to-A, a headphone amplifier, a computer audio interface, and/or a stereo system pre-amplifier. The addition of analog inputs and a standby ON/OFF switch are two features that distinguish the DAC1 PRE from the original DAC1 and DAC1 USB.

“We put everything we had into the DAC1 PRE,” says John Siau, VP and Director of Engineering at Benchmark. “It has all the best features and components of the DAC1 and DAC1 USB, plus several new features. Of course, it features the jitter-immune UltraLock system, AdvancedUSB, and the HPA2 headphone amp. The most exciting new feature is the analog inputs. Also, all of the 5532 op-amps were replaced with National Semiconductor LM4562 op-amps.”
