When Polyhymnia
International commenced A/D converter listening tests, they were
still known as Philips Classics Recording Center. The original
listening tests were performed with our 20-bit AD2004 family of
converters and demonstrated that Benchmark converter technology was
significantly superior to what was found in most professional A/D
converters. Philips had the availability of the best that Europe
could produce, as well as the finest from the US. The engineers
expressed a strong appreciation for the performance of the 20-bit
device, but preferred to wait for the upcoming 24-bit device with its
built in word length reduction algorithms.
When the new AD2408-96 was finalized, one of the first units was
shipped to the newly renamed group -- Polyhymnia International.
Once again the performance of the Benchmark converters proved superior
to the competition, with a subsequent purchase of 48 channels of
conversion.
